Our Materials
Our products start with the best nature has to offer. We prioritize natural fibers like cotton and linen, avoiding synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon, which contribute to harmful microplastic pollution. Our eco-friendly, azo-free dyes reduce water contamination, minimizing pollution in rivers and oceans. And when it comes to packaging, we minimize plastic use to reduce our environmental footprint.
Fibers and Dyes
Cotton is a strong, breathable, and natural material. However, conventional cotton farming is water intensive and reliant on synthetic fertilizers, which destroy soil and create chemical runoff, negatively impacting native species and farmers' health. This is why choosing organic cotton is important. Choosing sustainably produced cotton, grown without pesticides, can reduce water pollution by up to 98%.
Flax is the plant from which linen, one of the oldest known fabrics, is made. Linen is a natural fabric with a distinctive crispness that gives it a beautiful, flattering drape. Flax is a resilient crop requiring minimal resources, making it an eco-friendly choice for fabrics.
Our products are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, ensuring that we avoid azo dyes, carcinogenic and allergenic dyes, phthalates, formaldehyde, pesticides, heavy metals, and more. This is important because these toxic chemicals, used in many textile products, are discharged into local waterways, polluting rivers, groundwater, and eventually oceans. By using dyes free of these toxins, we help reduce pollution, in addition to protecting you and your families health.
Intentional Design
Our approach to design reflects a commitment to slow living and intentional craftsmanship. Each Willamere piece begins as a hand-drawn watercolor, thoughtfully created to blend seamlessly into your home with timeless colors and patterns. We design with longevity in mind, avoiding fleeting trends in favor of enduring textiles that feel both elegant and lived-in. By prioritizing tradition over trend and embracing slow fashion principles, our pieces are made to be used, loved, and cherished for years to come.
Our Packaging
Our sustainable approach extends to packaging. We’ve chosen eco-friendly packaging, using primarily paper and avoiding plastic wherever possible. This mindful approach not only reduces waste but also aligns with our commitment to protecting the environment.
Made In India
At Willamere, our pieces are thoughtfully made in India by skilled artisans who bring generations of textile knowledge to their craft. We choose to work in India not only for its rich heritage of cotton weaving and printing, but because it allows us to produce responsibly using high-quality materials, small production runs, and fair labor practices.
We partner closely with our makers to ensure ethical working conditions, mindful production, and a shared respect for craftsmanship. Each piece is produced with care, honoring both the hands that make it and the homes it’s made for, designed to be used, loved, and passed down for years to come.
