Care and Storage: How to Make Your Linens Last
Our linens are crafted from organic cotton and linen, both natural fibers that, with proper care, will stay beautiful and durable for years. Here’s how to care for your table linens to keep them looking their best.
1. Washing Your Linens
Natural fibers like cotton and linen require gentle care to maintain their texture and color. Always wash your table linens in cold or lukewarm water using a mild detergent. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, as these can break down the fibers over time. If your linens are stained, pre-treat the stain with a gentle, natural stain remover before washing.
Tip: Wash your linens separately from heavier items like jeans or towels to avoid excessive wear and tear. Don't forget to wash with like colors!
2. Drying Your Linens
For best results, air drying is ideal for natural fibers. If you use a dryer, tumble dry on low and remove the linens while they’re still slightly damp to prevent deep wrinkles. Once out of the dryer, hang or lay them flat to finish drying naturally.
3. Ironing for a Crisp Finish
To give your table linens that polished, crisp look, iron them when they first come out of the dryer, and fold them neatly until they're ready to be used again. Then touch them up before your next gathering, if needed, with an iron or steamer. If you prefer a more casual, lived-in look, feel free to skip the ironing and embrace the natural wrinkles!
4. Storing Your Linens
Proper storage is key to keeping your table linens in top condition. Fold them neatly and store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Avoid plastic containers that can trap moisture and opt for breathable cotton or linen storage bags to keep your linens fresh. My favorite way to store my linens is in a vintage cabinet near my dining table.
Storage Ideas:
- Roll linens instead of folding to avoid creases and make them easier to access.
- Use a dedicated drawer lined with acid-free tissue paper to protect delicate fabrics.
- Display your favorite linens on open shelving in your kitchen or dining room for easy access and a decorative touch.
